How to Make Easter Eggs and Keep the Egg.

I decided to make a few Easter Eggs this weekend since we were making scrambled eggs. In order to keep both the shell and the egg I would have to blow the egg from the shell. Make a small hole in the top and a slightly larger hole in the bottom of the egg using a large sewing needle. Take the needle and insert it into the bottom hole of the egg and try to break the yolk up the best you can. Clean away any egg shell shards and raw egg from the surface of the shell, you are going to have to put your mouth on the top of the egg. Making a seal as tight as you are able to on the top of the egg, start to gently blow the egg out of the shell. You can always get your children to help with this part.

Arugula, Spinach, Shallots, Red Onions, Yellow Onions, Leeks and Broccoli.

Cold Frame.

This would be a great weekend to start your Tomatoes, Ground Cherries, Asparagus and Sunberry seeds, (No typo, Sunberries are similar to Blueberries) indoors. They should be started 6-8 weeks before the last frost date in your area and can be slightly pokey to start. I usually sow about 2 seeds per cell and thin to allow the strongest seedling to survive. 

As soon as seeds germinate you want to remove the dome and put them directly under the light to prevent the seedlings from streching too far looking for light. This causes the plant to fail.

Mother Earth News posted a great article with a few recipes for using Dandelion Greens. We really love Dandelion Greens around here, we're just waiting for them to emerge. I can't wait to try some new recipes with the greens.

Take off.

One of our Hens making the big flight from the step to join the crowd. They always surprise me as to how far they can actually fly.

I really need to keep them in their pasture since they are on the front step here, however I'm kind of a pushover for them. They love being free on a nice day. We do not love stepping in their droppings, I will have to cut their parade short.
