Artichokes from Seed.

Artichokes are a Biennial crop that you can trick into growing as an annual. This is my first year experimenting with the  heat loving plants. You start the Artichokes from seed 8-10 weeks before last frost then feed them regularly with a fast release fertilizer to promote rapid growth. In May when the weather is appropriate you expose the plants to cool temperatures, 5-10 C, for about 10 days.
This tricks the plants into thinking that they already went through a winter which makes them produce flower buds. They are then planted in their final location in full sun.
