Fresh from Nature's Cold Storage.

Yellow carrots plucked straight from the garden. We cover our carrots with a really thick layer of mulch of and then dig them up as needed all winter. We should have enough carrots to last us until the spring. They just keep getting sweeter and sweeter tasting.

  1. Nice job Jessica. I would be just feeding the nasty little voles. They love carrots, and beets, and sweet potatoes.....

  2. Nice nutritious carrots and just proves you are far more organized than I am!!

I have baby carrots in the ground (and in raised bed cold frame) hoping they will not freeze solid under the straw and protection..and will spring into action growing when they know spring is in the air :0)

  3. Geeez George, I sure am glad I don't have your vole problem here. Maybe my kitties take care of any voles in the area. Sounds like your voles would be well fed anyway if you had to look at the bright side of things.

Our carrots have never frozen solid under a good layer of mulch, once in February a couple of the tops froze around the greens. I'm sure your's will be an extremely tasty treat! We leave our parsnips in the ground until the spring, usually only taking a few over the winter months, as they are truly at their very best in the spring.
